another trick...

while my mom and dad were here, maisy figured out how to drink from a straw.  my mom just let her try to sip from her drink and there she went sucking away and actually getting something up the straw.  i had been trying it with her, and she would never do it.  the funny part about this is when miles was little and my mom and dad were visiting, we were at a restaurant tin AG, and my mom did the same thing, just let miles try to sip from her straw and he did it.  so both my kiddos learned how to drink through a straw with their grammy!

walking update...

tonight was a special night for maisy.  we got home from a birthday party at chuck e. cheese, i gave maisy some yogurt, washed her up got her into her pj's and headed to the living room to play for a little while.  let me back up a little bit... we have been practicing walking with maisy every chance we get.  she is doing great walking with us with one hand. and she buzzes around the furniture with no problem, but she will not stand by herself.  as soon as we let go of her hand she sits right down. ok, back to tonight... maisy just started letting go of the furniture and standing all by herself. she'd then sit down and miles and i would clap for her.  she continued to do this about 5 more times and would even clap for herself while standing. then out of the corner of my eye, i see maisy stand up from a sitting position and stand for a few seconds!!!  oh my, it was so exciting!!!  i'm thinking all of a sudden its just going to click and she's going to be walking any day now.  will try to post pics tomorrow.  way to go little girl!!! mommy is so proud of you!

happy easter

it was a fun and relaxing easter this year. it started out with all of us, including maisy sleeping until 10AM! yes, 10AM! miles and maisy found their baskets from the easter bunny went through them and played for a while.  we had a small breakfast, took baths and showers and went out to see if the easter bunny did a egg hunt for the kids. of course he did.  maisy found a chocolate egg and put it in her mouth foil and all.  she loved every bit of it!  as you can see from the pictures, we had a beautiful day blue and sunny skies!

we(miles, maisy, nana, david and myself) then headed out to brunch at the santa maria inn. it was relaxing and delicious. so nice to not have to cook or clean up.  miles was adorable in his easter outfit and maisy looked so grown up i couldn't stand it. all in all we had a wonderful easter. 

growing up way too fast...

i was reading somewhere that at this age maisy is suppose to start using a spoon on her own. of course, i now give her a spoon every meal.  this was her first try at it, i helped her get the yogurt on the spoon, but she did it all on her own from there.  she loves being independent, she is becoming such a big girl, i can't handle it.

seeing the world through his eyes

miles loves to take my point and shoot camera and go around taking all kinds of pictures.  i never know what i am going to see when i download my camera on to my computer. he sees life from such a different perspective, it is refreshing to look at his take on the world.  thought i'd share just a few with you.  i need to make a scrapbook of all of the photos he's taken over the years.

he might be the next "ace of cakes"

miles LOVES to cook. he loves to help me in the kitchen any chance he can.  when i saw this post on my friends blog, i knew it was something miles would love to do.  we collected all the necessary ingredients and got to work.  miles loved adding the food coloring and mixing it together.  he was also a big help pouring each of the colors in.  his face when we cut the cake was priceless.  i didn't tell him what it was going to look like when we cut it. so he was quite surprised.  he took a bite of his masterpiece, looked at me and said "mom, this cake is THE BOMB!"...  i thought my mom and i were going to fall over laughing.  thanks joanna for the fun idea. 

the cupcake "cake"

my friend julie reminded me i never posted pics of the cupcake cake i made. so here they are.  i am not very creative when it comes to decorating, but it was moist and it tasted pretty good. unfortunately maisy really was not interested in it at all. (she was just getting over being sick).  i am glad i read some websites and blogs about using this pan.  all the little tips and tricks made the cake come out perfect the first time around.  i was fully prepared to have to make several before i got it just right.
