Catching Up {The Dropping In Edition}

Over the summer, Miles attended several camps. I am pretty sure if you ask him which was his favorite he'd say skateboard camp. When he started, he could ride his board a little bit. I never thought he'd come as far as he did in just a week. On day 4 of his 5 day camp, he was "dropping in" on the 6ft. ramp. It is amazing, he is fearless!!! I think he was the youngest of the kids in his camp to drop in on the 6ft. He was soooo proud of himself.

SB Zoo

The kids and I headed to the Santa Barbara Zoo yesterday. We had a wonderful time. The weather turned out to be beautiful, and the kids were great. This was Maisy's first trip to the Zoo. She LOVED it. She keeps asking when we can go back. Miles loved it too, he brought a little notebook with him and wrote down all the animals we saw. We will be going back to the zoo again soon.

Maisy wanted NOTHING to do with feeding the giraffes.

Penguins were so cool. When the kids got into the window, the penguins would stay under water and follow what the kids were doing.

This picture has become a tradition. I take a picture of the kids with this baby elephant every visit. This is Maisy's first elephant picture.

Never Forget 9/11

I can't believe it was 10 years ago... Tuesday September 11, 2001. My life was so different then. I was not married, didn't have kids, didn't own a house and was still working.

I remember exactly where I was when I got the news.

I was on my way to work, and had my normal radio station on. Tom Brokaw was on the radio. This was very unusual for the radio station I listened to. He was talking about planes crashing into the World Trade Center in New York. My first reaction was this is a joke, they must be doing some kind of "War of the World" radio broadcast. I pulled into the parking lot at work and just sat and listened... It was true we were being attacked. My first reaction was to call my parents in Boston, I wanted to make sure they were ok. I couldn't get through, all circuits were busy. It made me nervous and sick to my stomach. After about 10 tries, I finally got through, and we were just in disbelief. Then my mom burst into tears and said what about all the children who lost their parents. I lost it. We said goodbye, I went into school and we all watched it on the news until the kids came into the class. I couldn't wait for the day to be over so I could go home and find out more information. I sat in front of the TV every moment possible crying and in disbelief. I was listening hoping to hear that they found survivors, but unfortunately they kept listing all of the deaths.

I was amazed and comforted by the way the whole country came together... God Bless America!

Catching Up... The New Bedroom

Miles has been wanting a "big boy" room, so for his birthday, my mom decided to redo his his room for him. His room used to be like a brick red and decorated with cars, but kiddie style cars. He wanted a skateboard room and was very specific about what color he wanted. According to him it had to be equal amounts grey and blue. Then I went online and found these great vinyl decals, they went up much easier than I thought they would and they look AWESOME! Thanks Grammy for all your help, it was a success!

Catching Up... The Birthday Edition

I have been a very bad blogger, I guess I was just uninspired, and felt like no one was reading, but then I realized it doesn't matter if anyone reads, it is an awesome way for me to record mine and my families lives. So I am going to back track a bit and catch up on some events that have happened in the past few months. I am starting with Miles' 7th Birthday. Miles wanted to have a Tony Hawk skateboard party this year, so we decided to have it at the house and have the kids bring their skateboards and scooters. We had an obstacle course, and played musical skateboards. When anyone asked Miles what he wanted for his birthday, he told them a pocket knife and a rubber band gun (must be the age). David got him a pocket knife during his trip to Sequoia. It says "Best Son" on the side... soooo cute. And his Auntie Jody got him a rubber band gun. He also got LOTS of skateboard style t-shirts. We all had a great day with friends and family. I just can't believe that I am the mommy of a 7 year old... where has the time gone?
